I just finished listening to “The Sun Does Shine,” by Anthony Ray Hinton. It’s a true story written by a black man from Alabama who spent 30 years on Alabama’s death row for a crime he did not commit. He was finally released in 2015 after our justice system decided it was ready to look at the glaring improprieties with evidence submitted (and withheld) in the original trial.

More than a story about fighting the justice system, it’s an example of how one person’s kindness can spread and soften even the most hardened of hearts. It offered me a new perspective on racism and the death sentence in America, and was a strong example of how the love we give to our children will continue to feed them long after they’ve grown.
