March 30, 2020

With this social distancing, I haven’t left the house since last Friday. Additionally, the weather has been gloomy, so I haven’t been motivated to get outside. When I saw the sun peak out from behind the clouds late this afternoon, it presented an invitation to get outdoors. Only I found myself coming up with excuses to stay inside. After all, it was already 4:30, and why go through the hassle of changing my clothes for only a quick hike. “There’s always tomorrow.” I thought.

Except, I know that when I start to find excuses not to get outdoors, it’s when I need to the most. So, I got my fanny off the couch, changed my clothes, and headed down the road to Mount Tom State Park. It’s a short jaunt to the tower, but there are a few excellent lookout points that add to the experience. Here, I found a new rock to sit upon where the State recently cleared trees around the tower. It presented a beautiful view of the lake and northern skyline. It was here, in the open air and refreshing breeze, where I recharged.
