My oldest son can write a five-page essay the night before it’s due and pull off a decent grade. He’ll explain that although he puts pen to paper the night before, he’s arranged words in his head since weeks before. That may have worked for me when I was in High School if I had actually given any thought to assignments, because I relate well to his process.

At any give time, I have multiple ideas developing in my head. If I’m patient, opportunity will present for each one to flow effortlessly into a tangible creation. If I try to force a task to completion, I inevitably run into hiccups, which lead to unnecessary time and frustration. It’s why I work most efficiently when I have multiple projects underway at all times.

To those outside my head, it may appear like I’m not focused, because I can abruptly leave one project for another. However, I look at it differently. It’s more like tending to a garden. I’m cultivating many ideas at once, while only tending to the ones that are ready for my attention; Eventually they all bloom.
