The lyrics to “Kiss This,” by Aaron Tippin always get my imagination flowing. It doesn’t matter how many times I hear the song, each time I envision a feisty woman relentlessly tearing into her cheating, soon-to-be ex-lover, while he grovels forgiveness in a bar full of patrons. You almost feel sorry for the SOB, while at the same time wishing to high five the woman as she soaks in the satisfaction of the last word.

I created a similar scene my Senior year of High School. It was two weeks before prom, and I broke up with my High School sweetheart in the middle of a lunchroom during a busy lunch period. I didn’t plan on the breakup going down that way, but I’m not proud to admit that I let my emotions get the better of me.

I’ve gotten better in my years at remaining cool under fire, but admittedly I still have momentary interruptions from my ego. At least now I catch myself, and I’m quick to pull back, and apologize if necessary. Life is simply more enjoyable without the drama.
